The design brief requested for FMA to: Provide a concept design for the facade and forecourt upgrade of the Golden Plaza building, noting that: “…the management of MTN Nigeria are happy with the internal layouts of the spaces within The Golden Plaza Complex, and it will be inhabited during any potential works to its facade.” Complete design of MKO Reparation building, bearing in mind MTN Nigeria’s generic space planning policy. Provide 800 car parking spaces within a newly conceived multi-storey car park, to cater for MTN staff, LASWA (Lagos State Water Authority) staff, and the general public. In our response, we sought to consider all the client’s needs noting what was said and unsaid – exploring operational procedures and existing constraints. We sought to juxtapose cost, land value & good urban design to get optimal form / size; consciously reconcile the buildings with their users ; concentrate on space fluidity; enrich the landscape; utilise organic spaces; create iconic buildings which stand powerfully and confidently within their grounds without being visually unsympathetic to their environments.
